Since 2023, Berend has been part of the SOLV team, where he currently works as a legal counsel. Berend is specialized in various areas of law, making him versatile in his role. His expertise spans competition law and compliance, where he has gained experience in conducting audits for large corporations and providing advice on online platforms, consumer rights, and sustainability claims. He is also well-versed in intellectual property law, particularly in infringement cases involving trademarks, designs, and trade names. Additionally, Berend has experience with legal issues surrounding unlawful media statements.
Berend is known for his enthusiasm and reliability. He is always eager to explore new subjects and legal issues, driven by curiosity. His sharp analytical skills enable him to quickly get to the heart of complex matters, allowing him to work effectively and efficiently.
With a master’s degree in ICT, intellectual property, and internet law from Vrije Universiteit, he has established a solid legal foundation. His master’s thesis focused on manipulative web designs on online platforms, also known as dark patterns, in relation to the Digital Services Act. During his studies, Berend also gained valuable experience in the legal sector, particularly in corporate law.
